Madam,

As an 89-year-old, I am concerned about the closure of public toilets on account of the cost of maintenance. I suggest this alternative which I saw in Switzerland recently. How it would work in Gwynedd is as follows. Participating restaurants or other shops would allow public access to their toilets, provided as a capital cost by the council. A coin-operated turnstile would be installed. The public would gain access by inserting 20p into the slot, which the owner of the premises would keep. Customers would be given a dummy disc to use the toilets free of charge. The council would pay for any repairs. The toilets would be maintained in excellent order for the benefit of upholding the quality of the establishment, as opposed to the council’s public toilets which are often dirty, with no paper, due to misuse by the public. I guess the cost of this system would be much cheaper than maintaining the existing public toilets.

Yours etc
