THE speaker at the July meeting of the evening branch was Michael Sol Owen.
In a delightful talk, he described how, in 2014, he and six others went on a 12-day trek, to Greenland, organised by a company called Icelandic Mountain Guides.
He explained that they covered 95 miles, ascending to heights of 15,300ft, walking along fiords, crossing rivers, walking on glaciers as well as up mountains.
Their equipment was carried by boat from one campsite to the next and they also spent one night in a mountain hut.
They had to carry a satellite phone as well as a high velocity rifle in case they encountered polar bears.
He illustrated his talk with many pictures showing the landscape which brought the trek to life.
He was thanked by Eryl for a fascinating talk which gave the members a glimpse of the life and terrain in Greenland. There was an opportunity afterwards to chat over a cuppa served by Sian and Margaret.
During the business part of the meeting, 13 members expressed a wish to attend the Federation Lunch in Llandudno on 1 October, and choices from the menu were selected and money collected.
Ten members were also interested in attending the Sports Day in Porthmadog on 10 September. The raffle prize, given by Betty was won by Sharon.
The Autumn season starts on Tuesday, 6 September with guest speaker Kit Ellis talking about her biscuit making company, Crumbs.
Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month in the vestry of the Ala Road Presbyterian chapel and any prospective new members will be most welcome.
