The 2021 Race the Train event in Tywyn has been cancelled.

The race, which is organised by the Rotary Club of Tywyn, have cancelled the event due to a “lack of clarity from the authorities and the uncertainty over easing of coronavirus restrictions.”

Malcolm Austin, who is the race director, said: “Due to circumstances beyond our control the Rotary Club of Tywyn has regretfully taken the decision to cancel this year’s Race the Train.

“The lack of clarity from authorities and the uncertainty over the future easing of Covid restrictions has made this difficult but pragmatic decision necessary.”

Stuart Williams, general manager at Talyllyn Railway, said: “It’s very disappointing for us at the Talyllyn, as well as for the local community that the Race has had to be cancelled again this year. It’s however very understandable as none of us can predict how the current restrictions might ease, or even tighten in the future.

“However, Race the Train has not gone away. It is simply hibernating and we will start planning a bigger and brighter event for when we welcome you back to the Race on the 20 August 2022.”
