A rally took place on Sunday to remember Capel Celyn.
A group gathered at the Celyn Lake dam at 1pm to remember the flooding of the village which took place in 1965. Organised by Hiraeth Film, the rally was open to everybody.
The speakers were Elfed Wyn Jones of Hiraeth Film, Dwyfor Meirionydd MP Liz Saville Roberts and Leena Sarah Farhat. There was also music from Cambria Band. Speaking after the event, Elfed said he hoped it would be held annually.
“People from all over Wales attended, and next year we hope to attract a bigger crowd,” he said.
Ms Saville Roberts added: “Since the flooding of Capel Celyn, there has been a significant development in Wales’ national consciousness, but her resources remain in the hands of a neighbouring country; there have been no developments to make a repeat of this sad event illegal. Never again should the people of Wales be forced out of their communities against their will, against the will of the country and those who represent us.
“I thank those who joined us on Llyn Celyn Dam to mark this poignant reminder of why Welsh land, Welsh culture and Welsh communities cannot be allowed to be so drastically undervalued ever again.”
