RESIDENTS of a Cardigan street who say their lives are being blighted by speeding drivers and inconsiderate parking may be the beneficiaries of a pioneering scheme.

They also maintain pedestrians are imperilled by motorists who use the road – one of Cardigan’s oldest – as a “rat-run”.

But now Ceredigion County Council officers are considering whether to give the street limited access to just residents and people who work there.

“Such a scheme is very rare; in fact there is only one other in the whole of the county,” local county councillor Mark Cole told the Cambrian News.

“If agreed, it would have to be done through a traffic order, consultation and the necessary funding.

“The only such scheme in Ceredigion is near Canolfan Rheidol in Aberystwyth, so it would not be setting a precedent as one already has been set.

“But before we reach that stage we have to make sure of the views of William Street residents.”

Cllr Cole made his comments after a meeting involving locals and county council officers last week.

Residents explained how a surfeit of parked vehicles made it difficult to access their own homes and led to a build-up of street rubbish.
