MATURE people in Ceredigion are being offered the chance to brush up on their driving skills.
A mature driver course aimed at drivers who are 65 years old or older will be held in Aberystwyth on 1 and 2 May.
The course is being held in partnership by Ceredigion County Council and Dyfed-Powys Police.
The same course will be held again on 4 and 5 September.
The one-day course will give participants the opportunity to learn from the expertise of experienced road safety professionals and fully qualified driving instructors.
The course aims to enhance existing skills and knowledge while introducing ideas such as dealing with stressful situations and planning for the future to keep mature drivers driving safely for longer.
Cllr Catherine Hughes, Cabinet member responsible for social services and the council’s 50+ Champion, said: “As people get older, it’s often a good idea to look again at driving, and consider if a refresher course could be useful; a course such as this is an excellent opportunity to do just that.
“Being able to drive is important for many older people to maintain their independence, this is particularly true in a rural area such as Ceredigion.”
The course is not a test but consists of group-based discussions which are led by a presenter before having an opportunity to drive with an approved driving instructor.
