A BUSY road near Morfa Nefyn has been fitted with speed bumps after a petition to Gwynedd Council received almost 400 signatures.
The speed ramps have been put in place on Lôn Uchaf after efforts from two county councillors and Liz Saville Roberts MP.
Cllr Gareth Jones, who represents Morfa Nefyn, is relieved that the work has finally been completed.
He said: “This has been a long process. It was started by my predecessor before I became county councillor.
“It is such a dangerous road. It is narrow, busy, has dips and there’s no proper pavement on either side.
“The best option was to have speed ramps. Not everyone is happy, but it was the only way to slow traffic down.
“It is a big step to making the road safe for pedestrians.
“I’m grateful to Gwynedd Council for getting the work done, so thanks to them.
“This has been going on for some time. I’ve been a county councillor for two years and it started before then.
“There was a petition set up and I left it in a few shops in Morfa Nefyn for people to sign.
“Locals and others who use the road signed it, it had almost 400 signatures.
“There have been some objections, but the speed ramps were the best option. The majority of people have been supportive of the ramps.
“A lot of the work was done by the previous county councillor here, Siân Hughes, and also our MP Liz Saville Roberts.
“They started this crusade and I picked up the baton.”
Liz Saville Roberts MP said: “I’m delighted that traffic slowing ramps have finally been put in place in the village.
“This will make a real difference to the safety of people walking along these busy roads.”
She added: “I congratulate Cllr Gareth Jones for succeeding in making real improvements to people’s lives.”
A spokesperson for Gwynedd Council said: “We have been working with the community in Morfa Nefyn to introduce road safety measures in the area, and as a result have installed speed bumps at Lôn Uchaf.”
