“FED up” residents have taken it upon themselves to clear grass and weeds on the Rheidol cycle path after constant rat problems.
A group of residents from Greenfield Street, led by Ronnie Critchlow, took matters into their own hands after local councillor Mair Benjamin accused Ceredigion council of not clearing the area.
The council told the Cambrian News that work is undertaken in the area “weekly”.
Cllr Benjamin, who met with residents clearing the area, told the Cambrian News: “They were so fed up of Ceredigion council not clearing the grass on the cycle path and rats are running mad in our area, hiding behind the grass.
“I stopped and had a word with them and while talking to them every other person passing was saying that Ceredigion council should be doing this.
“I did try to explain about cut backs, but that didn’t go down well.
“For the last two years I have had to put rat-killer down so I was glad to see others taking the lead as well.”
Cllr Ray Quant MBE, Ceredigion council Cabinet member responsible for technical services, said: “The area is subject to weekly cleaning work undertaken by the council’s Street Cleaning Service.
“The level of service provided is reflective of the resources available and other priorities.”
