RESIDENTS in Abererch recently got together to hold a clean-up day on their estate.

People living on the Ger y Bont estate worked with Cartrefi Cymunedol, Keep Wales Tidy and Gwynedd Council to carry out the clean-up.

The initiative targeted unwanted items from gardens and sheds, together with a litter-pick of the estate.

A total of two skips and four vehicle pick-ups full of rubbish were collected during the morning’s work.

The recyclable rubbish was then taken to Gwynedd Council’s Glan y Don Recycling Centre in Pwllheli where it was sorted and recycled.

Jonathan Gwyn Neale, Gwynedd Council’s Tidy Towns officer, said: “It was great to see so many children helping out. Not only were they dragging large items from the houses to the skips, but they also undertook a litter-pick at the end of the day to clean the estate up. It’s great to see young people taking such pride in their local environment.”

The day was organised by John Glyn Jones, community warden with Cartrefi Cymunedol in Pwllheli, who said: “It was great to work together with our partners to help keep the Ger y Bont estate in Abererch clean and tidy.

“Occasional clean-up days are an important tool in our larger estates in preventing problems from developing further on down the line.”
