A CHARITABLE trust set up in memory of a 20-year-old who died whilst working abroad in China will help develop the next generation of sports stars from North Wales.

In 2015, Llanbedrog was devastated by the news that Robin Llyr Evans (inset) had died after falling down a lift shaft at a tennis centre whilst working for technology firm Hawkeye in the Far East.

In the throes of their grief, Menai and Gareth Llyr Evans, Robin’s parents, have raised thousands of pounds for various charities, most notably by walking the entire coastline of Wales.

In the latest venture, set up in part by 20-year-old’s family, the Robin Llyr Evans Memorial Trust has been launched to support sportspeople from Gwynedd and Conwy.

A keen sportsman and fitness enthusiast himself, Robin was honoured earlier this year when Pwllheli RFC named an extension of their stand in his memory.

A former captain of the Pwllheli youth team, his name has now been immortalised on the Llyn.

The Robin Llyr Evans Memorial Trust is a charity which has been set up to financially support under 25-year-olds from Gwynedd and Conwy who excel in any chosen sports to assist with costs, such as travelling or equipment.

Grants of between £200 and £2,000 will be given to successful applicants twice annually, to create sporting success, a cause close to Robin’s heart.
