A group of volunteers from Porthmadog Maritime Museum have been awarded the prestigious Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
The volunteers and their invited guests gathered at the museum last Friday for the presentation of the award, given to recognise their huge work in reopening and building up the museum.
The crystal trophy was presented to the museum’s chairman, Dr John Jones-Morris, by the Lord Lieutenant of Gwynedd, Edmund Seymour Bailey, and the accompanying certificate was received by Moragh Bradshaw, the museum’s longest-serving female volunteer.
The museum, founded in the 1980s, was closed for a few years but reopened in 2012 and has gone from strength to strength, thanks to the hard work of the enthusiastic group of volunteers.
Dr Jones-Morris said it was a pleasure to see so many people at the museum.
“We are absolutely delighted that this dedicated and committed group of people have been honoured in this way,” he said.
“The community of Porthmadog and the surrounding area have been very supportive and interested in our activities and it is a great pleasure to see so many here today to join in our celebration.”
