Madam,

As rumours abound from sources close to the county council regarding the sale of Bodlondeb ‘to the benefit of the residents of Penparcau’, it is puzzling why from official sources there is an almost complete lack of information.

As members of the North Ceredigion Forum for Elderly Care but, primarily, as residents of Ceredigion, we are interested in the provision of care for vulnerable members of our communities.

An enquiry in July to the director of social services regarding the situation surrounding the sites of both the former Bodlondeb residential home and the proposed Cylch Caron extra-care housing development at Tregaron was met with a “nothing further to report, come back later”.

At the end of September, the forum wrote again. This time it was responded to by Nerys Lewis, Direct Services service manager and manager of the Cylch Caron Project.

Ms Lewis was able to inform us that the tendering process for the design and build contract for Cylch Caron is entering stage three: the county council is to consider those proposals which it has invited.

Swift progress indeed! It’s only been 12 years.

Sadly there was no mention at all of the Bodlondeb site in the response. If, as rumours would have it, the sale has been arranged and it is beneficial to the local community, why not share it? Heaven knows we could all do with some good news nowadays.

If they are not true, could the county council please issue a full update to stop us all fearing an outbreak of ‘worst case scenario syndrome’.

Yours etc,

George Holloway, On behalf of North Ceredigion Forum for Elderly Care.
