AN ABERSOCH man is preparing to leap out of a plane at 15,000 feet to raise money for a specially-adapted bicycle for a teenager with cerebral palsy.

Tom Evans, 23, is hoping to raise £3,000 for 13-year-old Lewis Walker, who uses a wheelchair, so he can explore his love of cycling.

A similar campaign was organised by Lewis’ mother Claire Kibblewhite-Walker earlier this year as she hoped to raise thousands of pounds for a ‘floating wheelchair’ which could be used by her son or anyone else visiting the seaside in Pwllheli.

Tom met the stoic 13-year-old a few months ago after he started going out with Lewis’ older sister Charlotte Williams.

After spending some time with him, Tom decided he wanted to help his new friend exercise more.

“Lewis was born six weeks premature with a congenital heart condition so needed open heart surgery when he was only five days old,” Tom told the Cambrian News.

“When he was 15 months old he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and so now uses a wheelchair.

“Lewis’ interests are rugby and he likes cycling but has now outgrown his bike so now we need a new specially made bike for himself.

“He loves exercising so having a bike would mean the world to Lewis but these bikes cost over £3,000."
