SNOWDONIA has been named the best national park in the UK.

The nation’s 15 national parks were cut down to a list of the top 10.

The list, by Brecon Beacons Holiday Cottages, was compiled using factors such as size, popularity, permissible footpaths for walking, places to eat, biodiversity, highest mountains, castles, and dark sky status.

These factors were put together to name the overall winner.

Snowdonia beat the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District into second and third places respectively.

Brecon Beacons, another of Wales’ three national parks, came in at number four.

Others that made the list include Loch Lomond and the Trossachs, the South Downs, Northumberland and the North Yorkshire Moors.
