AMERICAN soldiers stormed a building at Llanbedr airfield as part of a major war training exercise in Meirionnydd.

Exercise Vambrace Warrior, the UK’s largest military exercise in North Wales led by the Honourable Artillery Company (HAC), is now in full flow.

The exercise targets, Llanbedr airfield and Trawsfynydd power station, are now fully defended by a welter of ground-based air defence equipment provided by both regular and reserve elements of the British Army with HAC and multinational forces observing the targets from afar with a view to a ‘potential attack’.

After a flyby by an RAF Typhoon on Monday an ‘attack’ on the airfield was simulated on Tuesday by a US Air Force MJ130 Hercules aircraft.

US personnel parachuted from the aircraft to take control of a building on the airfield before the aircraft landed at Llanbedr and took off with the US soldiers on board.
