DOLGELLAU celebrated St David’s Day in style with prizes for best decorated business in the town and dragons hidden throughout the town.
The winner of the business decorating this year was Caroline Dowkes of Harri’s Hospice at Home charity shop.
Cllr Linda Morgan visited the shop to congratulate Caroline on winning.
She said: “The windows looked brilliant and the event was good for the town. Many shops took part in the competition and they all did very well.
“Hopefully this will become an annual event.
“Caroline is organising a competition for the children over Easter, keep an eye out for details at Harri’s Hospice shop on Eldon Square.”
There was also a competition for children to find 10 hidden dragons. Out 47 forms collected, Jacob Muir of Dolgellau won a dragon almost the same size as himself.
To top off the week, the Welsh £ was launched at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor with guest speaker Liz Saville Roberts MP.
The scheme, piloted in Dolgellau with data collected by Ysgol y Gader pupils, recognises local businesses which use the Welsh language in their day to day dealings with customers, and businesses who are taking steps to increase their use of the Welsh language in order to improve the experience for both local customers and tourists.
The college was chosen as the location for the launch due to it having four businesses which support the Welsh language.
