A MAN and his son who assaulted a Hinterland actor outside an Aberystwyth bar while on a stag do had been involved in a land dispute with him, magistrates have heard.
Robert Meirion Edwards, 52, and Dewi Lloyd Edwards, 24, both of Ger y Coed, Cwmsymlog, assaulted Aneirin Hughes outside Rummers on 9 July.
Dewi Edwards caused injuries to Mr Hughes’s mouth, eye and the back of his ear after launching two attacks in a matter of minutes.
Filming of crucial episodes of Hinterland had to be put on hold while Mr Hughes recovered from his injuries.
Dewi Edwards admitted one charge of assault and a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, while his father Meirion Edwards, 52, who was celebrating his own stag do, pleaded guilty to one assault charge.
Mr Hughes received medical treatment, with Ms Jones saying the attack by Dewi Edwards had caused a cut lip, swelling and bruising to his eye and swelling behind his ear from the fall.
While Mr Hughes told police that he was distantly related to the Edwards family, he said a dispute over agricultural land had been resolved and that there hadn’t been any animosity about it.
But in a prepared statement to police Dewi Edwards said Mr Hughes had “caused problems for my family” and said he had lost his temper and launched the attack in the heat of the moment.
