Madam,
I have been a tenant at Glantwymyn Village Workshops for over 20 years. In view of the statement made by Powys County Council (Cambrian News, 13 December, ‘Workshop rent increases defended’) it would only be fair to present a few facts relevant to the proposed rent increases.
The council have not maintained the exterior woodwork. Repainting was undertaken, at no cost to the council, by the tenants. Much of the exterior woodwork is rotting away. The roof leaks, and has never been fixed.
The roof lights are filthy and obscured, and have never been cleaned. The units have single glazing. Similar units nearby are double-glazed. Similar units nearby have keypad entry. Glantwymyn has antiquated locks. The fire alarm is defective, and obsolete.
The hot water system is obsolete, and does not work. Strip lights are not being replaced.
The workshops are in an isolated location, and share their site with a cement works, resulting in a great deal of dust. The access road is in a very rough condition.
If the rents and service charges are to be standardised, it follows that the standard of care and accommodation should also be consistent. At the moment it clearly isn’t.
Yours etc,
David Perrott, tenant, Glantwymyn Village Workshops.
