A Bow Street couple who travelled to Cardiff to meet grime rapper Stormzy left with an extra special gift.
The London-based rapper surprised the couple with a bottle of Champagne to celebrate the imminent birth of their first child.
Stormzy was in Cardiff on 7 January promoting his second album, Heavy Is The Head, with an album signing at the city’s HMV store.
The grime star presented Sammy and Ryan Crees, from Bow Street, with a £300 bottle of champagne to congratulate them on their pregnancy.
The young couple, who married on 8 June, 2019, are expecting their first child on 24 February.
They had decided to enjoy a final weekend away together in Cardiff before the birth and, after finding out that Stormzy was doing an album signing, decided to extend their stay slightly to meet the rapper.
Sammy, 24, said: “We both really love Stormzy, but I have to say Ryan is definitely the bigger fan, he practically knows almost all the words to his songs off by heart.”
While in the queue, Stormzy’s security noticed that Sammy was heavily pregnant and invited the couple to join the priority queue.
On meeting the star, Sammy said: “When we got to the front we both hugged him and I made a joke about how we were so excited I almost went into labour waiting to see him, then he looked down and saw my bump and was just like ’oh my god, oh my god!’
“He was asking when I was due, if we had any preferences on the gender and then he said ’I’ve got a present for you, hold on’ and he asked one of his team to go upstairs and get the bottle.”
She added: “Someone brought the bottle down and he told us when the baby is born, to pop open the bottle and have a drink on him to celebrate the baby’s birth!”
After Sammy posted a video of the special moment on Twitter, Stormzy retweeted it to his 1.4 million followers and once again thanked the couple for attending the signing and congratulated them on their pregnancy.
Commenting on the experience, Sammy said: “Honestly, he is one of the nicest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of speaking to! A genuinely nice man.
“The whole experience was just so lovely and the perfect way to end our last little getaway before there’s three of us, and now we have a really interesting story to tell the baby when he or she is older!”
