Philip Bews’ letter (‘We are part of a united UK’, Views, 17 December) prompts me to say how strongly I support an independent Wales and how I hope that the Westminster Parliament of the United Kingdom will do everything in its power to bring Independence to Wales.

I hope it will not stand in the way of Welsh independence (The Parliamentary electoral costs of standing against Scots independence in Scotland are clear). Welsh independence can and should be facilitated by Westminster governments by providing the financial support that Wales has always been entitled to and by Westminster delivering the huge compensations due to the economic outflows from Wales into English and Scottish coffers ers talwm. The love England has for Wales is what should guide attitudes. It’s our right and moral duty to make the path to independence an easy one if that is the wish of the Welsh people.

Standing in the way of independence would be small minded and costly. We, in these islands, can become genuinely united by acknowledging that we are united in fostering the autonomy and independence of its constituent nations.
