Madam,
Gwynedd Council and Plaid Cymru are urging us to vote to remain in the EU in the referendum on 23 June. This is because Gwynedd and Wales is said to benefit financially from EU membership. But, on the other hand, Gwynedd planners have turned down at least two major housing developments in recent months on the basis of a perceived threat to the Welsh language.
The message I’m getting is that we’ll take the financial benefits and the free trade and freedom of movement that come with EU membership. We accept that this also comes with net migration from the EU into Britain, and that is fine. But Gwynedd Council and Plaid Cymru don’t want migrants from outside Wales to come and live in Gwynedd.
As the Welsh language takes precedence over everything else, surely Gwynedd and Plaid Cymru should be advising us to vote to leave the EU?
Yours etc
