A LLYN surfer who lost his leg after he was hit by a car is now hoping to represent his country at the Paralympics.
Llywelyn Williams, from Bwlchtocyn, near Abersoch, was told his right leg would need to be amputated in 2011 after he was run over by a car.
The 21-year-old, who was just 16 years old at the time of the accident, suffered multiple injuries which included a broken femur, dislocation of both hips, a shattered pelvis, punctured lung and a split liver.
Numerous attempts were made to save Llywelyn’s leg but, due to him suffering a life-threatening infection, his leg had to be amputated.
Following release from hospital, Llewelyn vowed to get back into his main passion, which is surfing.
He said: “I’ve been surfing for eight years or so. I was already hooked to the feeling of getting on to the waves.
“As soon as I got home from hospital my friends, family and the community helped me to get back into the lifestyle and helped me back into the water.
“The first time I got into the water again I felt alive and I knew nothing was going to stop me.
Llywelyn has already travelled around the world competing in several surf competitions and now hopes to compete in the Tokyo Paralympic Games or the 2024 games.
