ANOTHER university sports club is at the centre of controversy after a slogan printed on a team t-shirt appeared to mock disabled people.

The Cambrian News understands that a member of Aberystwyth University’s netball team travelled with teammates to the SportsVest 2016 student festival in Lloret de Mar, Spain, last week, with a t-shirt printed with the slogan ‘m**g gimme dat shl**g’ on the back.

On the t-shirt itself the first word, which is seen as an offensive word to describe disabled people, was not asterixed out, but the second word, a slang word for part of the male anatomy, was.

In October 2013, the university’s cricket team had its funding pulled and was banned from entering competitions after a member wore a shirt emblazoned with the words ‘casual rape’ on a night out, sparking outrage at “distasteful and completely unacceptable” behaviour.

Asked by the Cambrian News this week why they thought the word ‘m**g’ was acceptable but the word ‘shl**g’ required asterisks, a spokesperson for Aberystwyth Students’ Union said: “AberSU are aware of the situation and have dealt with it accordingly.”

An Aberystwyth University spokesperson said: “Aberystwyth University supports the steps taken by the Students’ Union in this instance.
