THE boss of Theatr Mwldan has set a date for when cinema and live performances can resume at the Cardigan entertainment venue.

In an email, Dilwyn Davies CEO of Theatr Mwldan has outlined the theatre’s plans for reopening and said that staff, who have all but one been on furlough since the start of the pandemic, will return to work shortly.

Mr Davies said: “We are aiming to reopen for cinema only on Friday 3 September 2021, followed by live events towards the end of September.

“This will be a phased reopening based on a part-time operation initially as it will take us some time to build back up to our pre-Covid level of operations.

“These dates will be also dependent on continued progress with the vaccination programme, Welsh Government guidelines and low levels of Covid-19 variants in our community.”

He also confirmed that the theatre had secured second round funding from the Welsh Government’s Cultural Recovery Fund, which was set up to support arts organisations through the pandemic and can be used to cover the costs of running the company that, in our case, would otherwise have been covered by our operations and earned income whilst open under normal circumstances. ?

Mr Davies added: “This means that our staff team – all but one of whom have been on furlough – can now be brought back to work full time until the end of September.

“It also means that we can now get on with a long list of essential technical, maintenance and administrative jobs that we must complete before we reopen to the public. ??

“So, we are delighted and very excited to be finally looking forward to a date when we can reopen operations. ??

“We have also been busy over the winter months giving our foyer a big makeover to make it both more welcoming and Covid-safe.

“Thank you again for all your help and support. We can’t wait to welcome you back… safely.”
