Personally, I am supportive of the proposals for a new-look constituency of Ceredigion Preseli, reported in last week’s CN. It’s probably long overdue. We have too much government, not just in Wales but, in the UK as a whole. We have too many MPs and MSs, and far too many Lords/Ladies.

The new look constituencies in Wales will reduce the number of MPs by eight, leaving us with 32 MPs. That is about the right number.I would like to see the same number in the Senedd. Do we really need more than 32 MSs? Sadly, there is not much chance of that happening, as the Senedd are hell-bent on adding another 20/30 MSs. Add to those extra MSs the support staff that goes with them. I dread to think how much that is going to cost the taxpayer. Only UKIP’s Senedd member voted against increasing numbers, and now we haven’t got him.

Studying the map, I think there are more council wards than necessary.

There could be room for some trimming in that area. A ward of 2,000 electorate per councillor should be workable. If governments, UK and devolved governments started cutting waste then they need not keep increasing taxes.

I am hoping these constituency changes are carried through. One MP, one MS and one council, big opportunities to save the taxpayer money. Finally, Ceredigion Preseli has a ring to it.
