TWO dog handlers are busy preparing to take on the best in the world at Crufts.

Ginny Davies from Penmaenpool and Debbie Ashton from Llwyngwril have both been selected to take part in the acclaimed dog show at the NEC in Birmingham next month.

Ginny will be taking her seven-month-old labrador Tommi and Debbie will be taking her five-year-old springer spaniel Ted.

Tommi has been selected for the Kennel Club Good Citizen puppy display team and Ted has been chosen to take part in the Good Citizen Bronze factor challenge.

Ted will be part of a display and then take his Bronze test later in the day.

The scheme is run by the Kennel Club and promotes responsible dog ownership and training and ranges from puppy classes to a gold award.

Ted is nearly five years old and as well as obedience he competes at agility shows and his Kennel Club name of “Tornado Ted” is very apt considering his energetic and enthusiastic work ethic!

Tommi is only seven months old so it will be a big test of his aptitude and character to perform well on the big stage.

Both dogs have been training hard to prepare for the tests and train up to three times a week at Dysynni Dogs.

It is a fantastic achievement for Debbie and Ginny with their dogs being selected from all over the country.

It is also a great reflection on Dysynni Dogs, the local dog training club where Debbie and Ginny train.

The club was only founded four years ago and this was the third consecutive year it had supplied handlers for a Crufts display.

Last year Pauline Hoadley and Bizzie passed their test with flying colours.

Dysynni Dogs is based at Bwlchgwyn farm, Arthog where training takes place for puppy, obedience and agility classes.

Such is the demand for puppy and obedience training they have branched out to hold puppy and obedience training at Arthog Village Hall and also in Dyffryn Ardudwy.

Sally Friswell, who runs Dysynni Dogs, said: “It will be a big test coping with the atmosphere in the ring at Crufts but all our members want to wish Debbie and Ginny all the best of luck”

“They have both trained really hard to reach the required standard and everyone at the club is proud of them.

“Many of us will be there cheering them on!”
