Madam,

In response to David Walpole’s letter (‘I bet these killjoys fly on holidays on gas-guzzling jets’, 12 September), speaking personally, this particular killjoy has taken one gas-guzzling short haul return flight in the last 12 years.

There are many fantastic holiday destinations accessible by changing trains in Paris.

In a general sense though, he is correct; far too many people jump on flights without a thought for their carbon footprint, including many environmentalists.

It is as if their own carbon emissions just don’t count. The climate crisis is now far too serious for that attitude to continue.
