CALLS are being made for Gwynedd Council to repair a number of pot holes which are causing problems for car park users near the new sailing academy in Pwllheli.
Pwllheli town councillor, Alan Williams called for the local authority to repair the pot holes in Glandon car park at the end of 2015 but was shocked to discover the work had still not been carried out two months after Christmas.
Cllr Williams urged his fellow members at a recent Pwllheli Town Council meeting to support his calls to push for Gwynedd Council to carry the work out as soon as possible.
He said: “I was contacted by a group who were visiting Plas Heli around Christmas time who said there were still large pot holes in the car park. I was surprised to hear this as I thought the work had been carried out and finished in time for the Christmas period.
“I went down to look for myself and couldn’t believe the work had still not been done.
“I spoke to Barry Davies from the Gwynedd Council Maritime and Country Parks service that day to ask what is going on and to remind him that the potholes need filling, especially with the heavy rain we have been getting recently.
“This is the main car park for the beach and those who use Plas Heli, is it not good for the users of the car park, to walk through and for their cars – the issue needs addressing immediately.”
Cllr Williams’ calls were also supported by Cllr Mici Plwm who said he had also received concerns from the public who had used the car park recently.
He said: “I was made aware of this from a lady who went to a new year’s party at the Plas Heli and how she and her group of friends had ended up walking into all those watery pot holes.
“We have brought this issue up before and I support calls to contact Gwynedd Council to ask for the matter to be addressed straight away.”
Pwllheli Town Council has submitted a further letter to the county council along with pictures of the potholes in the car park.
A Gwynedd Council spokesperson said: “Works to resurface the car park entrance were carried out during the latter part of December 2015.
However, the recent exceptionally wet weather and indeed an increase in the use of the car park has resulted in some pot holes reappearing.
Further works will be carried out in the near future.”
