URGENT action has been demanded to address a notorious accident blackspot in the centre of Aberaeron.
The main A487 trunk road through the town was closed, causing traffic chaos and bus delays for two hours on Tuesday afternoon of last week, after a lorry and an Audi car were involved in collision.
The accident – in which there were no serious injuries – happened at the Alban Square junction with North Road and Regent Street where there have been numerous accidents in the past.
Witnesses say the driver of the Audi and a young child passenger appeared to escape serious injury as did the lorry driver.
However, this latest incident has prompted Cllr Elizabeth Evans to call for urgent action at the location.
“That junction is too busy – it’s as simple as that,” she told the Cambrian News.
“You have a major trunk road running through the town and a one-way system bringing traffic from Lampeter onto that road.
“Directly opposite that junction you have the exits to two of our busiest car parks and on top of that you have buses coming down from Alban Square along with visibility issues in all directions.
“It’s also a chicken run because when you have two sets of traffic facing one another you have to second-guess what the driver opposite is going to do.”
