A Gwynedd father who raised money for the hospital which gave him and his daughter “incredible care” after he gifted her a kidney has handed over a cheque for more than £1,700.

Gareth Charlton, who lives in Dyffryn Ardudwy, has returned to work as a train conductor based in Pwllheli after giving his daughter Jennie a kidney in February, and took on a sponsored night-time walk up Snowdon to raise funds for the Royal Liverpool Hospital Charity on Saturday, 31 August.

On Thursday, Gareth travelled up to Liverpool to hand over the cheque.

“It was wonderful to see familiar faces and thank them again for all they did,” Gareth told the Cambrian News.

“The final total is just over £1,700 which will go directly into renal services at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

“Jennie is still doing really well, enjoying college and looking forward to university next year.

“As always I’m urging everyone to make sure they have discussed organ donation with their loved ones.

“Also if anyone would like to donate a kidney to a stranger, contact your GP for more information. I’ve met some amazing altruistic donors, they all say it was a wonderful experience.”
