Tributes have been paid to a well-known Aberystwyth man who died last weekend.
Meilyr Llwyd, 43, who worked at the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth and played for Aberystwyth Town’s disability football team, was described as a “very popular” man, who would be “greatly missed.”
Meilyr – known as Mei – was a well-known face at Park Avenue, as an avid supporter of Aberystwyth Town. He was a mainstay of the Aber Stars team.
The club said it was “deeply saddened” to hear the news of Meilyr’s passing.
“Meilyr was a popular member of the club having played for the club’s disability side for a number of years, as well as being a regular attender at Town’s games,” the club said.
“Meilyr will be remembered by many for his friendliness, his smile and his great sense of humour.”
Mencap Ceredigion, which supported Meilyr, said its “phone and messaging system has not stopped asking about him”, since his death.
“That demonstrates the love everyone had for this guy,” they said. “We would like to send our sympathies to his family and friends but in particular to his loving partner Helen, his great friends and house mates and the dedicated Mencap Housing support workers and other agencies that had the pleasure to know Meilyr.”
Pedr ap Llwyd, chief executive and librarian at the National Library of Wales where Meilyr was an assistant librarian, said he was “a breath of fresh air, a gem, and one of the best”.
