AN ABERYSTWYTH trio are appealing for people to donate food tomorrow ahead of their trip to Calais to deliver vital supplies to refugees next week.

Johnny Gaunt, 44, along with students Abi Wren, 20, and Freddie Mackereth, 22, will set off from Aberystwyth at 8am on Wednesday, 24 February, and spend four days at The Jungle camp in the French port town where thousands of refugees and migrants are living in squalid conditions.

Ahead of the trip, the group will be holding a food collection day at Aberystwyth Students’ Union (opposite the union shop) between 10am and 5pm on Thursday, 18 February, in an attempt to be able to take as much food as possible to the camp, where they will be spending their time helping out with logistics and speaking to people living in the camp.

The group are asking for the following items in particular: oil; rice (1kg bags); sugar (1kg bags); tinned fish (tuna, sardines, mackerel); biscuits; tinned foods (ring pull tops only); tea and coffee; salt (750g); UHT Milk; and washing products.
