THE five-yearly review of the New Quay Lifeboat service has taken place.

Lifeboat operations manager Roger Couch welcomed everyone to a crew room packed with crew members, fund-raisers, supporters and members of the local community.

The review was conducted by Vice-Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, chairman of the RNLI Operations Committee, and a team representing the trustees and the council of the institution.

Sir Timothy remarked that they were going away with an impression of an enthusiastic team and an efficient and well-run station.

Following the meeting, Sir Timothy presented awards to three long-serving members of the station.

Roger Davies was presented with an honorary life governorship, having served 54 years to date and having occupied the role of deputy launching authority in recent years.

Trevor Evans received a 50-year service award, having spent most of that time as crew member and recently as one of the shore crew, deputising at times as a launching authority.

Rees Tom Jones, deputy second coxswain, was reaching two milestones in his career, not only receiving an RNLI 40-year service award, but at the same time achieving 40 years’ service with Western Power and also received their long service award from his manager.
