THREE former Tregaron school friends are hoping to raise almost £1,200 in aid of an Alzheimer’s charity by doing a non-stop walk around the Isle of Wight.
Holly Corlett, 23, along with Rhiain Davies and Catherine Jones, both 22, all went to Ysgol Uwchradd Tregaron together and are planning the 65-mile walk around the largest and most populous island in England, which sits just four miles off the coast of Hampshire.
The walk will take place on 30 April and the trio will walk through the night and without a break in order to complete the walk and raise a target of £1,185 for the Alzheimer’s Society.
Rhiain is from Ponrhydfendigaid and works in marketing in Cardiff, while Catherine is from Pontrhydygroes and is currently away working in Cambridge.
Catherine said she had very personal reasons to be raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society.
She said: “I’m sure many people who are close to someone with Alzheimer’s disease can relate to what I have seen my grandma go through.
“I’ve seen the strong, independent person she once was slowly slip further and further away as she fails to recognise herself or her family.
“Alzheimer’s is a heartbreakingly sad, confusing and lonely illness.
“But Alzheimer’s Society provides the much-needed support and care for people with the disease and their family and friends."
