DELIVERY of turbines to a new wind farm near Carno has begun, following a trial run.

Awel Newydd Cyf, the developers of the Tirgwynt wind farm between Carno and Cefn Coch, said that a trial run in June for the delivery of turbine components to the site was a success, and that delivery of the equipment began on 25 July “as planned”.

Awel Newydd has made some additional adjustments to the route on the approach to Cefn Coch to take account of minor issues.

Deliveries will have a full police escort, and current plans are for one delivery per day up to six days a week.

The equipment deliveries will take around two months - finishing in mid-September.

Awel Newydd said it aims to shorten the period by increasing both the frequency to two deliveries a day, and increasing the size of the deliveries to a maximum of three abnormal load vehicles - subject to police approval.

The group said that “key local events and the August bank holiday weekend will be avoided.”
