Editor,
There is a lot of concern, and not a lot of accurate information about both the virus, and the potential effects of the methods to control it.
People need to stop unnecessary travel and journeys whether in trains, buses, taxis, or private cars.
They should not move to holiday areas, where infrastructure and numbers of ventilators is not sufficient to carry the extra population, but should stay in their own homes where everything is available should it be needed. Otherwise they increase their risk of death and spread the virus, killing others.
Schoolchildren, and adults, should not meet people socially to play or socialise, but should stay at home.
If you can walk out in the country, fair enough, but do not visit play parks, popular locations, etc.
Do not go anywhere by car, as you need to conserve fuel, and so that you have as little as possible contact with petrol pump handles, etc.
However, at home, there is no need to clean/bleach/sterilise anything more than you would normally, except perhaps your doorbell/knocker and handles. Thus there is no home that needs to buy extra cleaning products beyond normal.
It is important to make as few trips to the shops as possible, to reduce contact with others and things they have touched.
Anyone who is unwell, with cough, cold, sneezes, fever or headaches, should stay in their own house; otherwise they will spread the virus and be responsible for increasing the number of deaths. Too many have ignored this advice already.
This is a time to bring back the war-time pastime of vegetable gardening big-time. Especially to avoid boredom in children.
Wishing everyone good health,
Dr David Church Tywyn
