A BLIND man says he was left “humiliated” after he and his guide dog were turned away from a Talybont pub.
Mike Randall, who lost his eyesight due to diabetes, had visited the Ysgethin Inn on the evening of Saturday, 21 May, with four members of his West Midlands scout group when the incident occurred.
Despite Mr Randall insisting it was against the law to turn his dog, Crumbles, away, he says the member of staff refused service.
Landlord of the pub, Jonathan Huwlett, who was not present at the time, has since apologised for the misunderstanding by a member of his staff.
But Mr Randall’s friend, Jeremy Wood, who was also present, said he was ‘disgusted’ by the way they were treated by the member of staff and he hopes by highlighting the incident it will make more businesses aware of the law surrounding guide dogs.
The Equality Act 2010 says it is unlawful if a person with a disability is treated unfavourably because of something connected with their disability, such as a guide dog, and this treatment is unjustified.
