This year’s virtual Urdd Eisteddfod will be held in Llangrannog, it has been confirmed.

Urdd Gobaith Cymru’s residential centre in Llangrannog will be the venue of this year’s virtual Eisteddfod T festival, which will be held during Whitsun half term.

Eisteddfod T 2020 was broadcast from a temporary studio at the Urdd’s centre in Cardiff Bay.

This year the organisers have promised an even more innovative digital festival and will be broadcasting from a studio set up especially for the occasion at Llangrannog.

Eisteddfod T will be held during the usual Eisteddfod week, which is Monday, 31 May until Friday, 4 June.

Unlike last year, organisers intend to hold Eisteddfod T’s main ceremonies on location at Llangrannog, whilst adhering to Covid-19 restrictions, and some individual performances have been re-recorded in broadcasting studios.

Siân Eirian, director of the Urdd Eisteddfod and Arts said: “I’d like to sincerely thank the 12,000 who have competed in this year’s Eisteddfod T – this is twice as many as last year. From Anglesey to Abergavenny, Patagonia and Dubai, the response has been staggering.

“As organisers we are thrilled that the Urdd residential centre in Llangrannog will host this year’s Eisteddfod T. It is an iconic location in Wales that holds fond memories for many generations. Being able to hold the festival’s main ceremonies from Llangrannog will be a bonus, too.”

Chief Executive of Ceredigion County Council, Eifion Evans said: “We welcome Eisteddfod T to Ceredigion with pride and confidence that the week will be full of safe and keen competition.

"The residential centre in Llangrannog is an extremely important resource for the Urdd as it is for us in Ceredigion, and it is great to see the Urdd use the centre in a creative way to promote entertainment for the children and young people of Wales.

"The Urdd and the county council have worked very closely over the past few months to ensure that the arrangements fully comply with Covid-19 rules and restrictions. We look forward to a week of wonderful competitions and entertainment from the Eisteddfod.”

Lowri Jones, director of Gwersyll yr Urdd Llangrannog, said: “It will be a pleasure to welcome the presenters and crew working on Eisteddfod T to Llangrannog and Ceredigion Bay will provide a stunning backdrop for a week full of fun and excitement.”
