I am dismayed at the council’s reaction to the call for lifeguards on Barmouth beach, saying they wouldn’t make much difference to safety.
Excuse me, what planet are they on? The father who lost his life saving his children was close to the shore and if there was a lifeguard on beach, maybe he could have been saved.
Also the boys in 2016 who lost their lives, again they were close to the shore. Also the very presence of lifeguards alerts people to the dangers. The cost overall of having a lifeguard would be much cheaper than calling on helicopters and other services.
The lifeguards could also distribute vital information on beach safety. I would urge the council to please think again and please act now before someone else’s life is lost this summer.
