A FORMER Aberystwyth school pupil is “absolutely buzzing” after winning two medals at the Invictus Games.

Corporal Ian Taylor, of Taliesin, took home a gold medal and a bronze medal at two different events at the games, which were hosted in Orlando, Florida, last week.

Cpl Taylor, who used to attend Penglais school, was one of six Welsh military veterans who were part of the 108-strong British team out in America for the games.

He suffers from chronic back pain which affects his lower and upper thoracic areas following an accident and said that participating in the Invictus Games has “greatly improved his quality of life”.

On Monday, 9 May, Cpl Taylor secured a bronze medal in the Men’s Heavyweight Powerlifting competition with a lift of 142kg.

Two days later, he took to the water for the final of 50m breaststroke competition.

Swimming away from all-comers, Cpl Taylor came home first in a time of 35.27 seconds to take home the gold.

Cpl Taylor, who is still out in America, said on social media that he was “absolutely buzzing” to take home medals.
