A COMMUNITY group in Borth unveiled a new mural on the weekend, to celebrate a £360,000 grant they received last year.

On Saturday, 12 February, the community of Borth came together for the unveiling of the new Summer of Fun mural which graces the outside wall of the Borth Community Hub.

The unveiling gave the hub the change to celebrate being awarded £360,000 in National Lottery funding last year, enabling them to expand on their very important work.

Manager Helen Williams said: “Around 50 local people turned out on one of Borth’s more blustery days to enjoy various activities and refreshments including bumer amounts of celebration cake thanks to Amanda Mallows, the Hub’s community cafe manager.

“Borth Community Hub is only as strong as it is because of the support of the National Lottery Community Fund, volunteers, staff, and trustees.

“Many organisations, families and individuals have supported the hub over the years and Saturday offered us the first opportunity since restrictions have eased, to celebrate and say thank you.”

Regional Senedd Member, Jane Dodds, and Chairman of Ceredigion County Council Paul Hinge were honoured guests at the event, with former Ceredigion MP Mark Williams acting as Master of Ceremonies.

The “magnificent mural”, funded by a ‘Summer of Fun’ grant, was created by Borth Youth Club, led by youth worker and local artist Chris Corish.

The project gave local young people a wonderful opportunity to do something productive and fun during the summer holidays as part of a COVID recovery project.

Helen said the hub’s “biggest asset is the wonderful community” who continue to support their work: “The pandemic has thrown many challenges our way, not least that we have quite often had to change the way we provide activities at very short notice. However, our mantra here has been to just keep going.”
