A visitor to Barmouth has expressed her disgust at the amount of dog mess on the town’s streets.

Mandie Stewart, who owns a café in Norton Canes in Staffordshire, is a regular visitor to Barmouth, but following a recent trip declared she was now “appalled” by people and their lack of respect.

She said: “I’ve been coming over 25 years here to a place we love and I’m appalled at the amount of people who have no respect for Barmouth and its beauty by leaving their dog mess along the prom. I’ve walked my dogs here every morning and it seems to be getting worse, if you own a dog do the right thing and clean up after your dogs.”

She added: “The problem is everywhere in Barmouth, not just the promenade. I stayed with friends at the Barmouth Beach Club and they have the big problem of people using the track to the beach club and hydrangea house also using it as a dog toilet.”

A spokesperson for Gwynedd Council said: “Dog fouling on public land is our number one complaint, and winter brings particular problems with the dark early mornings and evenings providing cover for offenders. As part of our efforts to tackle the issue, our street enforcement wardens increase the frequency of patrols to numerous areas where concerns are raised."
