Volunteers in Blaenau Ffestiniog got together for a community litter-picking day around the town.
On Saturday, 21 September, to coincide with World Cleanup Day, 15 volunteers – the youngest being two years old – succeeded in collecting over 20 bags of litter during the day, with their efforts showing how local pride can really make a difference to a community.
Local councillor Annwen Jones said: “As a county and town councillor and a member of the board for Y Dref Werdd, seeing all the families out there volunteering to keep the streets of Blaenau clean is very inspiring.
“It shows how social and supportive an area like Blaenau is.
“Community litter-picks do far more than just remove litter – they show that people do care about their community, which can motivate and inspire others, they help educate people about plastic pollution, and they provide an opportunity to bring people together in the community, to get to know each other and socialise.
“I would like to say a big thank you to all the volunteers and to Y Dref Werdd for their support.”
The group of volunteers are looking at starting their own community group to organise regular litter-picks and other events.
