The first Proud of Barmouth clear-up which was carried out by seven local volunteers who cleared up over four tons of sand and weeds from the area all around the Barmouth leisure centre has been hailed a success.

As the cost of doing this would have come out of the leisure centre’s budget it was felt to be a job worth doing, aside from the fact the area now looks so much better.

The event was really well attended.

Cllr Katie Price said: “Barmouth Town Council were pleased with the enthusiasm that our community have in keeping Barmouth a wonderful place to live, work and visit. Lots of people borrowed the hi-vis jackets and gloves to make a start on their own areas.

“Peter Simpson (Gwynedd Council streetscene manager) and Bob Griffiths (warden cefn gwlad) both attended and were pleased with the progress that Barmouth Town Council are making.

“As a result of the meeting, there are now projects in the pipeline – everything from litter picks and tidying up notice boards to weed clearing and re-vamping part of Wern Mynach.”
