A first aid charity is appealing for new volunteers in Ceredigion, to help with their “life-saving” work.

Across the county, the St John charity is trying to find new volunteers. But opportunities are not restricted to first-aiders.

The lifesaving charity has various volunteer positions, including fundraisers, public relation officers, financers, safeguarding officers, treasurers, and youth leaders.

The charity is looking for passionate, pro-active and friendly people across Ceredigion to join them in achieving their mission of a first-aider in every home in Wales.

St John Cymru first aid volunteers attend some of the biggest events in Wales; Long Course Weekend and Big Tribute Festival in Aberystwyth are just a few supported by volunteers across Dyfed.

The divisional officer in charge for the Aberystwyth Town Division, Gemma Atherton, said: “Duties for us revolve around summer events when organisers traditionally have good attendance.

“We cover local sporting events at Blaendolau Playing Fields along with fetes, carnivals and fairs.

“Many of our events are annual ones which we enjoy attending, such as the Sea2Shore festival in August and the Big Tribute Festival. We see a variety of injuries and illnesses crop up over the range of events.

“Our members are trained and well placed to attend to any casualty.”

She added: “I find volunteering incredibly rewarding, to be able to be involved in a health related setting where I can help care for people and offer training to our volunteers and the wider public, knowing that one day those life-saving skills may need to be put to use.

“I have made the best of friends through volunteering and am always learning new things.”
