A care home in Penparcau is one of 400 community groups across the UK to receive volunteer support from Marks and Spencer as part of a nationwide week of action to support young people and families.

On Wednesday, 5 June, volunteers from M&S Aberystwyth put on their gardening togs and rolled up their sleeves to work with staff and clients at Bryn Siriol respite care home.

Together they created a sensory garden and a wildlife garden for birds, bugs and bees.

Volunteers Tina Bliss, Amanda Wells and Ben Mercer said they felt privileged and proud to spend a day at Bryn Siriol and haven’t stopped smiling since.

The M&S Aberystwyth colleagues are part of an army of 5,000 volunteers from more than 600 Marks and Spencer stores across the UK who took part in a week-long volunteering drive, committing over 40,000 hours to projects that work tirelessly to improve the lives of children, young people and families across the UK.

Store manager Michael Betchley said: “We are so proud to be able to support this deserving charity who do such good work in the community.

“We care passionately about supporting excellent local projects and I know this is something that our customers care about too.

“I was delighted to be able to hand out some Percy Pigs and witness the hard work of my wonderful team. Well done!”

Bryn Siriol and M&S were paired together by Neighbourly, the social network for social good.
