Llanbedr is facing an anxious wait to find out if its long-awaited bypass will go ahead, after the Welsh Government announced it was putting a freeze on new road building projects whilst a review is carried out.
The Welsh Government said: “All road programmes and projects that we fund, except those under construction, are potentially in scope under the roads review. The schemes affected will be confirmed by the review panel in due course.”
The bypass got the go-ahead in March 2020 and in November Gwynedd Council approved the use of CPOs to allow the multi-million-pound scheme – set for completion in 2023 – to go ahead.
Neither Dwyfor Meirionnydd MP Liz Saville Roberts nor local MS Mabon ap Gwynfor had on Wednesday been told whether the project will be affected.
Gwynedd Council said it was also waiting to hear if the Llanbedr bypass project had been affected by the freeze.
A Gwynedd Council spokesperson said: “At present, the council has not received any correspondence regarding this matter and the Llanbedr project is not named in the Welsh Government’s statement on the matter.
“We have contacted the government to seek clarity regarding the announcement and whether the Llanbedr project, which aims to support high value employment opportunities for people in the Meirionnydd area, is impacted by the recent announcement.”
