Madam,

Re: Cambrian News article “Loss of school play area lets residents down” (30 March).

Much has been made during this Ceredigion County Council election campaign of the decision made by the Cabinet regarding the sale of Cwmpadarn School on the open market.

We were led to believe that Llanbadarn Fawr Community Council had been consulted as to whether they had any interest in the future of the property, or if they were aware of any other local interest. It now transpires that Ceredigion council is unable to confirm that this consultation did in fact take place and the clerk to Llanbadarn Fawr Community Council also has no record of having received any correspondence regarding this matter. It was reported to Cabinet at their meeting of 14 March that “Llanbadarn Fawr Community Council have been consulted and have not expressed any interest in the property”. Evidence clearly shows that this was not the case, which is a great disappointment to us as local members.

Following the elections of 4 May, if re-elected, we shall be taking this matter further by making representations to Ceredigion council that the Cabinet made their decision based on inaccurate information and that we believe full consultation should be undertaken with Llanbadarn Fawr Community Council. We have already raised our concerns with officers of the council regarding this issue and have recommended that the Cabinet decision be made null and void. It will then need to be considered afresh by the Cabinet of the new administration who will be able to make an informed decision based on the most current infor-mation available. It is only right that Llanbadarn Fawr Community Council and residents of the village have the opportunity to show an interest in the future of the former Cwmpadarn School site.

Yours etc
