A weather alert has been issued for the Ceredigion coast - in particular Aberystwyth - this evening and tomorrow morning with high tides and strong southerly winds expected.

Natural Resources Wales issued an alert this morning saying: "High tides are predicted for this evening, Friday, 9 November, and also tomorrow morning, Saturday.

"High tide on Friday will occur at 8.45pm at Aberystwyth, and 9.15am on Saturday.

"The southerly winds will increase today reaching force 7 to gale force 8 for a time shortly before high tide.

"Southwesterly force 6 winds are expected this evening. Offshore waves are expected to be moderate to large.

"The combination of large waves together with high winds means that wave overtopping is possible for a few exposed locations around the Ceredigion coastline.

"In particular Aberystwyth seafront is likely to be affected by wave action and debris being swept onto the promenade area.

"Be careful on beaches, promenades, and low-lying land. Be careful as sea spray and waves could be dangerous and could contain debris."

A yellow warning for wind and rain has also been issued by the Met Office for parts of Ceredigion tonight and tomorrow morning.
