A weather warning has been issued for parts of Gwynedd and forecasters say there could be power cuts, large waves and travel disruption.
The Met Office’s yellow warning for wind came into force at 2am and ends at 6pm. It covers parts of Gwynedd as well as Northern Ireland, Scotland and areas of England.
The Met Office say some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely, along with disruption to some bus and train services.
Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges are likely, and some sea fronts, coastal routes and coastal communities are expected to be affected by spray and/or large waves.
Some short-term loss of power and other services is possible.
A Met Office spokesperson said: “Strong south to south-westerly winds will gust 50-60mph at times but there is the potential for gusts of 70mph for eastern coastal districts of Northern Ireland, the Western Isles, across the Pennines, North Wales and perhaps the Moray coast during the morning.”
They said winds will ease across Northern Ireland and the parts of Scotland during the afternoon before easing across the rest of the affected areas.
